'White Seagull' 2007
George Dulake’s sculpture draws influence from nature and language, casting rough sculptures from recycled car parts, steel and plaster. Dulake’s method of shaping his work comes directly from the style of his drawings, pages of cartoon like sketches make up a portfolio of ideas and development. In the case of the sculpture ‘Blue Shark’ Dulake has literally drawn the image of the shark, straight from the sheet of metal, cutting it from the steel plate with the same intention one might draw a pencil or graphite stick across a piece of paper. The resulting effect is one of a two dimensional sculpture in the cast of a drawing possibly reminding one of a Jean Michel Basquiat.
